Dorothy Evelyn Roberts Price, 94, of Meridian passed away December 1 in Jackson, MS. She is survived by her three children, Michael J Price (Joey), David E Price (Etta), and Leigh A. Althaus; six grandchildren, Ryan Price, Brad Price, LT David Michael Price, USN (Lindsay), LT Andrew Price, USN (Emily), LT Wesley Althaus, USN (Melanie), and Anna Althaus; one great-grandchild, Kinsley Price; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Henry Price; her parents, Huie Menton and Mamie Neigel Roberts; her sisters, Vivan Patterson and Ailleen Price; and brothers, Huie Menton Roberts, Jr, Melvin Roberts, and Vernon Roberts.
Dorothy was born and raised in Meridian, MS, where she lived for her entire life. After graduating from Meridian High School, she went to work for Western Union where she met her future husband, Gene Price. Dorothy became a homemaker after getting married in 1945. A devoted mother and grandmother, Dorothy maintained close relationships with her children and grandchildren and delighted in their accomplishments. She loved spending time outside in nature, taking care of her yard, and feeding birds and local wildlife. Dorothy enjoyed exercising and avidly participated in classes at the senior citizens center. She was very active and often walked 10 miles a day.
As an avid reader of books and magazines, Dorothy often clipped articles of interest for other family members. She loved sewing and created many beautiful quilts and cross stitch pieces. She was known for her excellent cooking, especially pies and red velvet cakes. Dorothy enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola and meeting with her friends each week over hamburgers. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 4, from 1:00 - 2:30 pm at James F Webb Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3 pm at Magnolia Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of The Rose Garden Assisted Living Memory Care, and The Arbor Nursing Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Leukemia Society, or a charity of your choice.
