April 24, 1935 — May 10, 2020

Shirley Ann Goldman, 85, died on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020 surrounded by her children at her family homestead in Louisville, Mississippi.

On April 24, 1935, Shirley was firstborn to Charles Dee and Pansy Lee Stokes and enjoyed an idyllic childhood on her family’s cotton farm.  She graduated from Winston High in 1954 where she was Class President and voted Miss Winston High two years in a row.  After graduating from East Central College, she worked for the Meridian Police Department before marrying and beginning her family-centered career.  Shirley was best known for her tireless dedication and love for her children and grandchildren, her immense and timeless beauty, her unparalleled sense of style in fashion and decor, her talents in gardening, and her affinity for animals.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Thomas Laverne Goldman, and her brother Rodney Delane “Sonny” Stokes.

She is celebrated by her beloved children Sam Goldman (Lisa) of Meridian and Lee Joiner (Carlton) of Atlanta, Georgia; her cherished grandchildren Eli Goldman and Lexie Locklear of Meridian; Avery and Taylor Joiner of Atlanta; and her baby brother Charles Henry Stokes (Pat) of Louisville.
